Rose Ceremony Poem (a poem I wrote)

Date: 14 Oct 2007, 7:09 pm / Mood: grateful

ok, this is one of my favorite poems...though it only took me ten minutes to write, since it was from my heart, not my mind, this is the poem i read out to hundreds of people on my 8th grade graduation...it's about my parents...because i go to an islamic school.

everyone wrote speeches for the rose ceremony at the graduation, but because of how much i love to write poems, i was an exception, i wrote a poem as my "speech"...hope u like it, though it's not my FAVORITE as a poem, but it's my favorite as of how much i enjoyed writing it...

NO TITLE...just my rose ceremony poem

by: ME!

If there were any words to explain my love for you

There's not much I can say, and not enough I can do

Now, if i look at you, my eyes will fill with tears

I think of how difficult I was with you in the past few years

For being in this school, i feel very blessed

To have me be around my friends, it really is the best

When i first entered this school, i thought i would be teased

But after meeting other Muslim friends, i was very pleased

I appreciate everthing you did for me deep inside my heart

I really hope wel stick together real close and never fall apart

I love you Mom and i love you Dad for always being by my side

Don't ever think my love for you ever will or has ever died

I know I was short-tempered each time i argued with you

But after thinking of your love for me, there only so much i can do

I now come to say thank you for all the things you've done

And i just want to let you know that you are number one!

I LOVE YOU MOM AND DAD!

This is sweet sis, a very heartfelt poem, I am certain that your parents loved it very much!

I am currently majoring in Creative Writing, slowly working toward my PhD in English Literature and Creative Writing (Yes, you can make a very nice career out of writing poetry)!!! So , I wanted to suggest some things to help broaden your horizons... if you start early it will really help you, insha'allah, develop into the very best poet you can be....

Consider writing in "forms,"  Like sonnet, Villanelle, pantoum, haiku, prose poem, etc... You can look up how these forms work online, if youre interested. Also, consider learning about meter and rhyme patterns... meter guides the rhythm of your poem and rhyme patterns make it flow. Also, consider not rhyming at all... or rhyming in the middle of a line or at the beginning instead.. or rhyming more than two lines (3 or 4 maybe?), ALso, if you don't own one yet, get a Roget's Thesaurus... book of synonyms, it will help you find new words to make your poetry fresh and more interesting, and lastly, READ READ READ... read famous works of poetry, read alot until you find a style you like and try emulating it in a few poems... it seems to me that you have alot of potential and talent, so if you follow my advice, insha'allha you can really use that talent to its fullest capabilities... trust me, I promise you, you will love poetry even more if you try sum of these things and write even better.

May Allah keep you on the straight path and fill your heart w/ determination and inspiration. Amin.

Your big sis,

Ummqura

Nice meatings and feelings ... but like i told you before i cann't judge it professionally

each line (canto i guess in english) had to be a little shorter with less words ... but really great feelings and words

You're on the way ... Go on and i'm sure that you'll do it
