I am a 30something ex punk convert to Islam. I have been muslim for aboutt 4 or 5 years now. My wife Rabia and I were married in July 2006. We did things right (rishta, no dating, etc) so don't get any ideas. :)

I am an information security consultant, I have been in the industry for 11 years and a hard-core UNIX user for 15 or 16 years. I detest working with microsoft products, especially when they are deployed in an "enterprise" capacity.

I am a shooter, and intend to start competing in "three gun" matches at some point in the near future.

I am a Libertarian. To me there is no government like the smallest possible government. The fewer laws, the better. Life is more rewarding when you are given the oppertunity to screw up and learn from your mistakes.

I speak limited persian and urdu, and of course very limited arabic. Currently my Urdu studies have taken the top priority.

I also ride BMX, and can be seen on muslim-a-day.com from time to time.
BMX, Shooting, Classical Guitar, Blues Guitar, Information Security, Hacking, Video Games, cooking.
Circus Midgets, really really aggressive converts, racism in any form.
Jimi Hendrix, Machine gun live at Monterrey.

Salaam alaikum Brother,

I'll start by answering the question regarding my husband's artwork. Yes, he has an online gallery at http://www.angelfire.com/sd/SculptorEW

These past few days he's been back in the shop producing a new piece & it is perhaps his best so far! Its so amazing to watch him work from s#####s of metal & produce these amazing sculptures that look abstract & know that they are Islamic Calligraphy!

As for the recipes....yes I have to get my backside in gear & start posting more recipes. I think I will also make a "wild game" group too, cause I am thoroughly enjoying working with wild game!

I definitely have the time to post recipes, since I have to keep my leg elevated for a while longer. You'll have to read my blog about concrete not working as a sled....you'll see what I am recovering from. LOL Life is always interesting that is for sure!

As for the gun shop...I think they thought I was a nun! LOL, I was in Black & WHite & like my husband said....he had no idea we were married & likely didn't think "Muslim" since at that time there were few Muslimah in the region who covered to the extent I did. But we did have a few convents/monestaries in the region. So either way, it was a bit of a "culture" shock for the pheasant hunters. LOL

So have you ever done a outdoor shoot? My favorite is a poker shoot. Are you familiar with it? In my case, we were using black powder muzzleloaders. Mine was a long rifle. It was sweet!
Salaam alaikum,

salaam alaikum Brother,

My husband's oldest gun is an 1860s shot gun that he refurbished. He was an apprentice to a gunsmith for a few years, and so the "gun thing" has mainly be that of an off-shoot to his metalsmithing. A few years ago we bought a mousar (sorry if its mispelled) that came from Turkey. Being that we live up here in So. Dakota having places to go shooting guns isn't a problem.

I have a funny story for you, that as a gun person you can perhaps truly enjoy.

My husband & I went into a rural gun shop in the region, to look at some guns. It was one of those typical hunter's favorite stops, where they shoot the breeze about the one that got away. So we go in, and start browsing. As we leave, I mention that they seemed real unfriendly toward me & my husband laughs & says... "Anisah look down at what you are wearing". I look down & realize I am in a full length BLACK khimar & black abaya! Yeh, those poor sods must have been having nightmares running thru their minds as my husband was "fitting" rifles up to me! LOL

You say you shoot only at an indoor range. I can't imagine doing that. I love the out door shoots. Once I even got to shoot a match lock musket! That was a hoot. It was made by one of our neighbors, just for fun.

I live in a town of artists & history buffs, so weapons tend to be interesting. Our strangest is perhaps our medieval catapult we now use for town parties. We like tossing flaming pumpkins with it.

(We don't get out much apparently). hahaha

Well hope to hear more about your life in Texas. Please give your wife my salaams.

Salaam, ANisah of South Dakota

salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatu,

thought I'd come by & visit your page & give my salaams. So when you say "shooting" what sort of guns are you talking? I'm personally used to firing black powder, but my husband has a bit of everything, other than pistols. The only pistol in our home is a black powder kit pistol.

Well hope to hear more from you.

salaam alaikum, sister Anisah
