Christian Missionaries and Islam

Date: 29 Mar 2008, 1:38 am / Mood: Other/None

brothers and sisters ~

responding to another post on Christian attempts to convert and evangelize muslims. it is interesting to read missionaries' perspectives on evangelization. we have a right to debate our views, to discuss, to dialogue. and to not convert away from islam, but to have our faith, and our belief in the One God.

but a point that a lot of muslims miss is the very real violence against these missionaries by muslims. we are asked not be be agressors, and to permit others to worship God as they see best, not turning them away or mocking them, nor mocking who they worship, lest we offend God. yet many muslims in these areas *do* get violent, and many christians, life-long and converts from islam are hassled, and some face violence or torture, and some lose their lives.

this is horrific, and should not be happeneing, no matter how frustrated or indignant a muslim community may feel.

O you who believe, stand for God and be witnesses for justice, and let not the hatred towards a people make you avoid being just. Be just, for it is closer to righteousness, and be aware of God. God is expert over what you do. 5:8

even if we hate someone, we should not be unjust or aggressive.

and look at sura 109. to the Christians their faith, and to us, ours. God knows best who is guided and who is astray, and to God all of us will be retruned.

we may be indignant and distressed by missionaries and by converts to Chrsitianity, but for God's sake, let's not by hypocritical or cruel in our dealings with Christians. let us be aware of our own community's injustice, and let us practice what we preach with other faiths.

let us keep in mind : "God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship and serve Him- this is a Straight Path." 3:51

may God guide all to a straight path, and bring His peoples together in peace.

not on this blog, at least. i'm writing here about Muslims' responses to Christian missionaries, and our obligation towards peace, and patience. the Jews, as you know, are also believers in God, and a people of the book.

what about the jews..where do they come in?
hanifa_g (29 Mar 2008, 6:07 am):
brother, you are right. there are Christian preachers who advocate violence against Muslims, but the problem for Christians is a lot worse. a lot worse. we need to realize this, and realize that Muslims are not only victims , but also can be attackers, and that's not just, nor acceptable. we need to have compassion for those who are driven from their homes, and barred from worship, and killed for faith. didn't the early Muslims face those exact things? yet there are Muslims who impose these same punishments on Christians, and this needs to be repremanded, and people should be safe to worship how they like, Muslims and Christians both. remember, Quranic injunctions on fighting are not about theology, but about defense and keeping corruption and misery away from the innocent.

Do Not Overlook The Converts From Iskam Who Go On To Become Preachers Who Advocate Agression Against Muslims And Islam
hanifa_g (29 Mar 2008, 3:44 am):
brother, so my goodness, what are you saying? a person insults us or speaks ill of Islam, and that justifies murder and repression of faithful people? a sarastic and unkind comment from a pope is not the same as physical force or doing physical harm to people, brother.

i am not a Christian and yes, i believe the NT has been edited a good deal, and added to, and subtracted from. but my point is not "why these guys are theologically wrong" but rather "some muslims really need to stop killing these guys". we need to look out for *one another*, Muslim and non-Muslim, wherever there is killing and oppression. do you not agree with that? the "us vs. them" mentality is dangerous, and remember, God has created us from a single pair of humans, and God knows best what is in peoples' hearts.
HusainAbdullah (29 Mar 2008, 3:33 am):

Salaam, I would like some one to give a  instance or a example of what you claim. Let's try this for example Pope Benidicts analogy on our Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu alayhis Wa Salaam).

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached," Benedict quoted. And have they taken back the persecution of innocent Muslims at Abu Ghrib or the attacks inflicted on Palestines by the basterd child of the U.S. Isreal or how about Chechnya or Afghanistan? The innocent muslims being killed because they're muslims.

Their will never be a interfaith with Christians ( astaghfirullah) so you can hang that up. We as Muslims don't sit quiet when foul things are spoken about Allah Subhana Wa Talah like Christians do. And while your college was busy tring to speak of Mathew the student of Paul aka Saul ( The Pharisee) not the disciple, writing of the 3 Jewish pillars that the Jews revised and Made it Isreal, God, Torah. The Injeel is not The New Testament the books of the New Testament was written 70-100 years after the so called death of Jesus PBUH. And the whole scriptures was plagiarized from the Gnostic text and the Gosple Q. The Gnostic texts are the books that was written by The Disciples and apostals of Jesus PBUH. That totally go against the theory of the trinity and the bogus attemp to put a eqaul to my Creator. Astaghfirullah!  So the Injeel is not the New Testment but The New Testament is only the books and letters of Paul and his students. Alhamdulillah!!!

May Allah discourse you and your missionaries and rub your noses in the dirt. Ameen

dang straight, Hannah. jazak Allah khayir, and may God lead more people to understand the severity of the situation.

many Muslims whine about Christian evangelization efforts, yet few Muslims face the troubles and dangers of Christians in primarily Muslim communities / nations. let's examine that, and realize that these guys are our brothers and sisters in God and "near to us in affection" as the Quran says.

and let's remeber this :

Those who have been driven from their homes unjustly only because they said: Our Lord is God- For had it not been for God's repelling some people by means of others, cloisters and churches and synagogues and mosques, wherein the name of God is mentioned often, would surely have been pulled down. Verily God helpeth one who helpeth Him. Indeed, God is Strong, Almighty. 22:40

so we are ordered to *protect* churches where Christians give praise to God (and hence the Chrsitians, too), not kill or mock them. we need to realize this, and not let our indignity or hatred or frustration lead us to make enemies of the innocent.

Thank you for speaking out on this! Whenever I read stories about ex-muslims, it seems as they they left Islam after seeing the actions of these "muslims." And yes, unfortunately it is true that so-called "muslims" have been the persecutors from time to time. let's not sugar-coat this issue. and the fact of the matter is that the more we mess up, the more christians will think it is proof in their favor when in fact it is just human barbarity.
