I'm an introverted guy who doesn't talk that much. That's because I'm usually thinking about something. Possibly a song in my head, possibly a philosophical idea, or maybe I'm just generally bored with my surroundings. I would consider myself a spiritual individual, and like to have people around me with strong morals and principles. What are you trying to achieve? What's your goal? How can we work together to make the world a better place? I enjoy reading, music production, writing, and mixing on my turntables. By training I am a teacher, but have interests in just about every discipline. I think an intelligent person should know a little of everything.
FIlmmaking, music production, reading, writing, language learning -- most creative endeavors. I'm also a computer geek who loves Macs and Linux.
Overly structured activities, math, Microsoft.
De La Soul, Prince Paul, DJ Shadow, DJ Premier, Kraftwerk, David Axelrod, Pete Rock, The Avalanches, Pink Floyd, Immortal Technique, James Brown, Lupe Fiasco, Gnarls Barkley, Marvin Gaye, Ultramagnetic MCs, A Tribe Called Quest -- anything soulful or funky.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Sling Blade, A Beautiful Mind, Office Space, War Games, Eraserhead
Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Orientalism, The Great Gatsby, Road to Mecca, Things Fall Apart, Bomb the Suburbs

salam brother, i read you conversion story, and masyaAllah, i must applaud you for your strength and determination.i'm also attracted to your writing on orientalism. i did a module last semester on Films and Asia and we're required to do Said's reading. perhaps you could look out for Franz Fanon as well, Black Skin White Masks. it has pretty interesting stuff on orientalism and the 'white culture' as well.hoping that u're in gd state of health and imaan.

wasalam.

Anisah_of_So_Dakota (10 Apr 2008, 1:18 am):

Is the starvation of a Muslim inmate in South Dakota NOT as important to Muslim advocacy groups as say fund raising in a highly populated state or lobbying in DC? I ask because we have a Brother here in our state who has desperately tried to get the major "advocacy" Muslim groups to get involved in a horrible case of prisoner abuse/neglect in our state's main prison against the ENTIRE Muslim inmate population, & NONE have been willing to do anything!

I realize most of these organizations are really no different from all the other non-profit urban groups that ignore the plight of rural, but let me clarify something.... most of THESE MEN were NOT from our state!

They were IMPORTED by states like yours, to serve out their sentences in our "plush" SD prison system. So while our so-called national "advocacy" organizations guys ignore the "rural" hicks of South Dakota, the federal & state prison system has taken advantage of the situation.

Something has to be done for one of the Brothers is becoming very weak due to the lack of adequate food being provided (he won't eat the pork they are intentionally trying to feed him).

So we need help! Any Muslims who can assist in this matter should contact Brother Imann at broimannsfsd@yahoo.com  He needs help in getting SOMEONE who has the means to take and fight the state over its outright & knowing mistreatment of Muslim inmates.
