About Me:
[NOTE: the age listed is fiction. Age means little in the real world... you are either alive or dead. So why place dividers like age or agism between us? So the age we placed here is older than any of our Sisters, just to make a point] This profile is the collective profile of the South Dakota Muslim Women's Network. We are a collective of Muslim women living in South Dakota, as well as Muslimahs who have lived in the state & now live elsewhere around the Ummah. Our History South Dakota Muslim Women's Network was founded in 1999, by Sister Anisah following the founding of its Sister organization, Minnesota Muslim Women's Network. The two primary founders of the Minnesota Muslim Women's Network, have since retired to South Dakota. These wonderful Sisters are: Sister Clareen Menzies (founder of Sisters Need A Place) and Sister Nieema Thasing. These are two of the most inspiring women in our area, mashallah, having achieved such things as : 1- Leading the national programs for an international relief agency, 2- Founding of a regional Muslim women's shelter 3- Making history by Serving as THE FIRST South Dakota Muslim woman to hold a political office in the State. Our Mission Our mission is to have another place for Muslim women to meet each other (network) for the sake of Allah. By working together we can bring about a unity in the community of Muslim sisters as well as strengthen in numbers. Each sister brings to the table a unique way of living life, yet we all can share in many of the same things. We pray together in each others homes, as well as learn as we enjoy the company of so many diverse women. Each time a new sister meets another sister and they begin to talk, our goal is reached. We work to bring the Ummah (mother community) together for the betterment of the Ummah & to strengthen our deen. When one sister who takes Shahada (declaration of faith), and is able to get the information she needs to make her journey a little easier, then we have reached our goal. A MUSLIM DOES NOT FORSAKE OR ABANDON HER SISTER We are not earning any money for doing any of what we do to network with each other, we do it for the sake of Allah. Love for the Sake of Allah (SWT) (The terms Brother, Muslim, etc. are not intended necessarily to be inclusively male in gender. The teachings are universal to all Muslims) One of the best distinguishing features of the true Muslim is her love for her friends and sisters & brothers in faith. A love that is not taken by worldly interest or motives, but A TRUE LOVE, whose purity is from the light of Islamic Guidance. A love for the sake of Allah. -The Messenger of God (PBUH) has been reported to have said: THERE ARE THREE THINGS THAT WHOEVER ATTAINS THEM WILL FIND THE SWEETNESS OF FAITH: IF ALLAH AND HIS MESSENGER ARE DEARER TO HIM (OR HER) THAN ANYONE ELSE; IF THEY LOVE A PERSON SOLELY FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAH; AND IF HE (OR SHE) WOULD HATE TO RETURN TO KUHR AFTER ALLAH HAS RESCUED THEM FROM IT, AS MUCH AS THEY WOULD HATE TO BE THROWN INTO THE FIRE." (AGREED UPON)

Hobbies:
HIJAB PROJECT: Our organization not only is involved in the shahada of women in our state, but also work to assist these women in obtaining hijabs. One way we accomplish this is to encourage Gifting their first hijabs & other basic attire such as an overgarment, hijab pins, etc. What is Gifting? Gifting is the act of sadaqa. It is taking the time to purchase or select from one's own collection of scarves & various other items; something of beauty & GIVING that precious item as a GIFT to the new Muslim, thus acting in the capacity of an Ansar -- by sharing one's own things with the new Muslim. We encourage anyone who is willing to contribute to our Hijab project to consider contacting us for more details as to how you can help. Some Sisters will take the time to find an attractive gift box, and wrap the GIFTED hijab in attractive tissue paper and then mail the item to the sister, with a small hijab pin. Such gifts make the early struggles that new Muslimahs experience, seem so much easier to cope with; when they know they aren't alone & that other Muslim women care about them. Its a small gesture that brings such great joy & strength to a new Muslimah. We are also involved in the regional sadaqa event that is taking place in Fort Thompson, South Dakota as part of the nationwide Humanitarian Day event of Islamic Relief.

Books:
Quran

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Quran like we treat our cell phones? What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets? What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it? What if we flipped through it several times a day? What if we used it to receive messages from the text? What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it? What if we gave it to kids as gifts? What if we used it as we traveled? What if we used it in the case of an emergency? This is something to make you say ...hhmmmm...where is my Quran? Oh, and one more thing, unlike our cell phone, we don't ever have to worry about our Quran being disconnected! Now stop and think, "Where are my priorities?" Others Books we like....
