Evil is as Evil does
Evil is as Evil Does… In the beginning, God created Man. And in the beginning, Woman has been falsely been accused by Man of being unworthy and evil. In two out of the three major religions, Woman has basically received a bad rap from the beginning of time. Not until the revelation of Islaam, has anything challenged and made right the wrong that had been written against Woman from the very beginning. The Christian/Judeo account of the Garden of Eden fully puts Woman in the wrong. It was all the fault of Eve that Man had to leave the Garden. Had she not listened to the Serpent, and had she not force fed Man the apple, they never would’ve been banished from the Garden. According to these traditions, Eve was punished by an increase in her childbearing pains, and that she would desire her husband, and he would rule over her. Must Judeo/Christians scholars refer back to this story, as the root of evil. Woman, as the root of all things Evil. The Quraanic tradition of the same story shows that both Woman and Man are to be blamed equally. One is not more wrong than the other. As recorded in the Noble Quraan, Chapter 7 verses 19-23: “O Adam dwell with your wife in the Garden and enjoy as you wish but approach not this tree or you run into harm and transgression. Then Satan whispered to them in order to reveal to them their shame that was hidden from them and he said: “Your Lord only forbade you this tree lest you become Angels or such beings as live forever.” And he swore to them both that he was their sincere adviser. So by deceit he brought them to their fall: when they tasted the tree their shame became manifest to them and they began to sew together leaves of the Garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them: “Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you that Satan was your avowed enemy?’ They said: “Our Lord we have wronged our own souls and if You forgive us not and bestow not upon us your Mercy, we shall certainly be lost” Both ate from the tree, and both were held accountable for their own actions. In Islaam, Woman has never had to fight the rumor that she was evil incarnate. Yet in looking even further into Judeo/Christian writings, we see many examples of quite the opposite! For example, Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 7:26-28, “I find bitterer than death the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner she will ensnare… While I was still searching but not finding, I found 1 upright man from among a thousand but not 1 upright woman among them all.” Ever ask a Rabbi what their thoughts on the Woman are? Just in case you haven’t had a Rabbi cross your path lately, I will tell you about the 9 curses inflicted on Woman because of her original sin. They range from bleeding as a result of loosing her virginity, to the pain endured during childbirth, and being forced to raise children (I was unaware that raising children was actually a punishment.) Included also is the likeness of her piercing her ears like a slave that will forever serve her master, and lastly, that she is not to be believed as a witness. Dr. Sharif Abdel Aziz wrote in a published article concerning the view of women in the 3 major world religions that, “The Biblical Eve has played a far bigger role in Christianity than in Judaism. Her sin has been pivotal to the whole Christian faith because the Christian conception of the reason for the mission of Jesus Christ on Earth stems from Eve’s disobedience to God. She had sinned and then seduced Adam to follow her suit. Consequently, God expelled both of them from Heaven to Earth, which had been cursed because of them. They bequeathed their sin, which had not been forgiven by God, to all their descendants and, thus all humans are born in sin.” It’s all her fault! That is the common message that is being putting out there! It never ceases to amaze me, that so many people think Islaam degrades the Woman. When in fact it is actually Islaam that came and put to rest the rumor that Woman has been, and continues to be at fault. That Woman is in fact evil to the core. In the New Testament of the Bible, in 1st Timothy 2:11-14, he (Timothy) writes, “A woman should learn quietness and full submission. I don’t permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived: it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.” So, as a Woman I never stood a chance! I am Evil, Evil, Evil! I deserve nothing! This seems to be the message lacing through the Judeo/Christian traditions. Islaam has many examples of the true status of Woman. The importance of her role as a Mother. It is seen as a blessing to be a Mother, not as a punishment due to her evilness. All of this is just at the basic level of humanity. Reading is fundamental, and if more people would put this into action, they might just come away having learned how to discern between fact and fiction. Or in this case, Eve and evil!
