I have two children and 5 Grand babies (delivered all naturally.) I also am a mother to the son of my new husband Sallim.
I am into health. I remember reading what was said about Allah putting things on earth to cure all things. Well, I am now spending a good amount of time looking into that. Honey and Black seed are the cures for everything but death is what has been said.
I love to read about things related to health and might one day become an N.D. in'shaAllah. (Naturopath)
I love to study my religion. While reading about the way of a Muslim, I also remember reading about Muslim women needing to learn how to hunt, fish, and ride a horse and camel. Well, I can do all of that and love it!!!
Living in a peaceful and fresh environment is what I need and Allah has provided that for me.
I now understand why it has been said in Islam women also were told to learn to hunt, fish and ride both camel and horse...it keeps us healthy!
In my journey to better health, I have begun to look at the way of things:
*why do grapes work well against Cancer.
*Why have they just now come to realize that a good prayer life will health you.
*Why do people know know that our way of praying is the most healthy thing one can do every day let along 5 times a day!!!
I think the discovery of all those things and more lead me to Islam in the first place.
The understanding of the 1/3 parts water, 1/3 food, and 1/3 air our bodies need to be healthy made so much good sense to me.
I grow up in St. Paul Minnesota and up until 2002 I was living mostly in the Twin Cities.
I ate the "normal" SAD Standard American Diet most all of my life until in 2000 I became affected with diabetes then I stared to want to know the Why of that also.
In 2002 I moved from St. Paul Minnesota to the Nederlands to be with my new husband Sallim Thasing a Dutch revert of 6 years. While there, I needed no medication for diabetes after being there for one only year!!!
I returned to St. Paul Minnesota on July 3rd 2005 to attend to my dying father. He died on July 7th.
On or about Aug. 2005 we move to South Dakota.
On May 1st 2006 we bought a home in Elkton South Dakota. Elkton has about 695 residents.
I/we love it here in South Dakota. We live not that far from the original series "Little House on the Prairie"
I have had a lot of people ask me "Why South Dakota?" It is Healthy!!!
South Dakota is the place we planned to retire to in around 2015 or so if Allah willed it.
My husband came to the US to visit me and we went to see the people that introduced us. They live in a small town here in South Dakota. While visiting we fell in love with the clean air and the open spaces of South Dakota. It reminds me of the wonderful life I had in the Nederlands. I am slowly getting back to the place of no medication God willing.
In July 2006 I was approached by the Mayor of Elkton Dave Landsman asking if I wanted to be on the City Council as a Ward 1 Representative. After having conversation with my husband Sallim and prayer, I told the Mayor yes.
It has been said that I am the first Muslimah to ever have an office in the state of South Dakota, and for sure on the City Council of a small town. Brother Hooper from CAIR said he thought for sure I might be, time will tell , Allahu Alim.
On January 3rd of 2007 I was appointed to the City Council by the Mayor and voted in as well as a show of confidence by the full Council. I even had my story in the Elkton Newspaper.
The Mayor took his time in putting me on the board so the community could get a chance to meet me and know me fully. I work with two of the six City Council persons in the school and our son is friends with the children of another, so it was not hard to get to know people. It is a bit like Mayberry here, you know andy Griffin and Ope.
We also have a member of the Council that is from Mormon (Latter-day Saints). She and I worked on the abortion issue together and supported a candidate that was Pro-Life.
January 7th, as a volunteer assignment, I met some the members of my ward for the first time. I was welcomed in their homes like and old friend. I was told about the history of the town and what they wanted to see happen in the future. I told them that they had an open door to me. That is part of Islam, you look out for your neighbor!!!
The town of Elkton has welcomed our entire family with open arms. This is a town that feels if you believe in one God, then things are ok.
Why Elkton why a small town you ask?
When we were living in the Nederlands, we were in a village about 3 miles from the German boarder. I shopped in Germany more then the Nederlands. My husband went to Jummah in Germany.
Our village was voted the cleanest place in the Nederlands and West Germany.
The air was sooo very fresh, yes there was the smell of the fields full of manure, but that was a part of the charm. The whole ECO system there was unbelievable. In Europe when I left, they did not allow GM foods (genetically Modified) foods for fear of contamination with cross breeding. What that is a fear that the sterile GM seed will mix with the original seed and they they both will product a sterile seed. Can you imagine if that happens here what that means???
They also have very strict regulations on other things that might pollute the air and ground water.
Oh yes, the water I drank over there might be some of the $3 a bottle water you buy in the store. They do not ever put chlorine in the water. I think that is one of the reasons they live so long.
I would by fresh from the farmer or the shop every other day. The refrigerator was not too big and most of the food had no preservatives in them alhumdillah.
Coming to Elkton South Dakota had that same easy going friendly, open tolerant feeling and fresh air that the village had.
There are several Hetterite colonies around us and those women are covered too. The interesting thing about many of their communities is they are mostly all organic and some of the 4 that are here are looking at not raising pig. I conversation with them, they are now finding out the problems that pork and pork by-product has on us humans.
We are able to buy from them and they will allow us to do the Zabha cut. They do something very similar to us in the cut and the draining of blood. So Alhumdillah, Allah has let us be healthy and I just wanted to share that with others.
Being in Elkton is very health for our mental growth and spirit too.
It gives a feeling of hope!
During the Dr. King celebration 2007, I was able to share my experience with Dr. Martin Luther King's history and my own and tie it into my Reversion to Islam in 1998. That was such a great time with me and the children during the Dr. King celebration. The Children during the Dr. King celebration, were almost in tears knowing that the racism might still happen because I am Muslim. They vowed to work hard to make sure that it does not happen ever in Elkton. They I pray, will grow up defending the rights of all people to live and worship as they choose. They now understand that there is only one God and we all share the pleasure of knowing him.
In Elkton, there are four different churches and 2 funeral places. Now if that is not a great spirit boost!!! Soo many to help understand Allah and Muslims! I am looking forward to sharing and learning.
The only thing bad about Elkton is the cell service it is bad but, if you need help of any kind you can get it with a wave of the hand.
We have found a great place to live!!
So far so good Alhumdillah
