It's Not About Them, It's About Allah
I've heard about this many times, I've seen it, and have been subjected to it myself; discrimination within the Ummah. The very first time I entered a masjid I was treated as if I had some nerve to even enter. I was not welcomed at all. It was shortly after I took Shahada. It was a shocking and disgusting experience. I'm quite certain racism was the root of their behavior toward me. Sadly, I am not the only Muslim to be treated this way by other Muslims. I have witnessed another treated with the same disdain, and have spoken with quite a few who've told me how poorly they were treated. It both angers and saddens me.
Racism is born of ignorance. It has no place in Islam, it has no place in this world. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) spoke of how one is not to hold themself over another in such a way. It seems that is often forgotten. So if you are one who allows the ignorance of racism to determine how you treat people, recall His (PBUH) words the next time you encounter someone who is not of your race. When you behave as if you are better than someone who is not of your ethnicity, you are only proving that you are in fact not better at all.
To my Brothers and Sisters who have been subjected to this disrespect and ignorance, do not let it get you down. Allah accepted your Shahada. You most certainly do have a place in Islam. It's not about them, it's about Allah. You are Muslim for Him... remember that.
