Chi-town versus Chicago

Date: 27 Apr 2008, 5:14 pm / Mood: loving-in-Allah

In the Name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful

Often times I come across people that refer to Chicago as "Chi-town" or "Chi".They say are you from "Chi-town"? Of course, the muslim when asked where is he or she from has been instructed to respond "Inna lilahi inna ilaihi rejeun." I am from Allah and unto Allah (swt) is my return.

But, the real reason that I hate it when people refer to Chicago as "Chi-town" is because it so closely resembles Shaytun. So, it is like they are asking me if I am from "Shaytun". Probably why it has gotten so crazy there...I wouldn't doubt that it would have a negative effect this curse upon the name of the city. I am into animation so I think of people disappearing into Shaytans because of this mysteriously. But, anyway I write this blog to say I seek refuge with Allah from the twist of the tongue meaning that could be attached to my old city and birthplace, as being from, what they have coined "Chi-town". I myself simply call it Chicago. I seek refuge with Allah from "Chi-town" this is not for all who live there but, for me, my sanity, and those in Islam there that are willing to see. Cause being from Shaytun would make a person crazy. And I do not want to be mad or insane...foaming at the mouth or otherwise.

No, I am really into studying words and word use and the use of similar sounding words in english to arabic. It is just that being someone that is from (Allah) Chicago...this is something that I come across alot...and it may not be that that was what they were intending. But, it doesn't refute that this is something that some will do intentionally to twist meanings...I deal with it just about everyday on another level. If it is something that one would deem too trivial...I would say I disagree where I am at it is a refined practice of overturning, reversing or flipping truth and justice. To me word usage and verbal contracts (which is general consensus) is an element of this practice.

Well I respect your opinion but I don't think the reason that Chicago has a high crime rate is because it's nickname is " Chi-town".

I think high poverty rate and immorality is to blame.

That's like saying " There are fat people in Macon, Georgia because it's nickname is Mac-Town and it reminds me of Mcdonalds"

But personally, I prefer the term Chicago too.
