Mother of 4 grown children, grandmother of 9. New revert to Islam, about 2 years now. Currently live in Washington State. Disabled, suffer from 'Chronic Fatigue Syndrome', and chronic social anxiety disorders (caused by childhood sexual abuse), currently receiving SSI, unemployed, but looking for ways to make an independent living. Salaam alaikum. No the children were not Muslim. Their mother was studying Islam. That is as far as it got. As for "tribal benefits" there aren't really any benefits to get. The tribe is the 2nd poorest tribe in this nation. Its a myth people have that tribes have money to pass out to their members. Rose Bud's economic crisis is so bad, that the despare is causing many young people to commit suicide. The white towns on the outskirts if the reservation sell alcohol to the tribal members, though it is known to be a poison to the people. The economic opporunities are almost non-existant on the reservation & on top of that, many faith groups come out offering trinkets of resources IF they hand over the kids to be indoctrinated into the invading religious ideology. So you sell your children's souls, they will feed you. ITs just a "Great" system if you are out to wipe out a people. Which is after all the real intention. So now this grandmother has the responsibility to try to raise these orphans by herself. Insha Allah, we are hoping the Muslims will at least have some sympathy for their plight & will consider helping. Insha Allah. At least during Ramadan.
