A short poem about growing old

Why am I lying on this bed?

Looking and feeling, like I'm dead,

People, hustling, bustling by

Don't see the tear, falling from my eye.

They tell me that, I'm not well,

Tranquilised brain, how can they tell.

In this invalid Motel,

Waiting for the dinner bell.

No more usefull, to my kin,

Only half of of what I've been,

Thrown into a garbage bin,

Dribbling through my silly grin.

Can't tell people when I'm cold,

Punishment, for growing old.

Times of laughter, times forgot.

Abandonded by those, I loved a lot.

Children see me once a year,

They don't want to see my fear.

Waiting every single day,

Hopeing that they'll pass my way,

Bring some sunshine to my life,

But they're too busy, to relieve my strife.

So now I lie here, all alone,

I think It's time to breathe a sigh,

Close my eyes, and say goodbye.

Nice poem, sad though, but again, in islam, parents aren't left alone (elders, grandparents...). They are well taken care of by their children, but that's in Islam, you don't really know if MUSLIMS apply it =| I have heard many stories of children throwing their parents in (places for aged people) when they are old. How sad =|

They say old age is light and light doesnt burn in fire.

Sad that the old in the hos[ice are not looked after by anyone. truly sad. I hope my childrenw ould not abandon me inshallah

Touching yet intellectually stimulating poem that delves on age… But don’t be sad dear brother, you are never alone, Allah is always there… those that you have touched, would always be there for you… InshaAllah.

Edith Warthon once said, "In spite of illness, in spite even of the archenemy sorrow, one can remain alive long past the usual date of disintegration if one is unafraid of change, insatiable in intellectual curiosity, interested in big things, and happy in small ways..."

As salaamu alaikum

Masha Allaah nice poem.

It's sad how little value is given to the elderly.  As a child some of my best friends were seniors... they told the best stories, giving a vivid glance into the past (especially my grandfather the original little rascal lol) and had the best goodies <smile> At age two, in the morning, I would 'disappear' from home wandering into Blossom's kitchen for 'toaster.'  In the afternoon, it was Ruthie for Oreo's & peppermint patties which seemed to taste better at her house and telling her which cherub carved into her fireplace mantle was me... the littlest one of course <smile>.
