Salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatu We are a new Islamic Center based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA. We are an ethnically mixed community of Believers, who share in common the Belief in the Oneness of Allah & the message of Prophet Muhammad (saw). This profile is our online presence providing interested Muslims with news & information regarding the Ummah of South Dakota. Our Islamic Center is based in Sioux Falls, which is a small city in the southeast corner of the state. If you have a moment, please visit our homepage.
We work, insha Allah, to serve the diverse Muslim community in the region, and also provide dawaah services to the many Americans around us who know little about the teachings of Islam. The larger Muslim community of Sioux Falls has been growing steadily these last few years, & this includes more & more Muslims. Many refugees are brought to Sioux Falls by the Lutheran Social Services agency based in Sioux Falls, many of which are Muslims. In addition Muslim American families migrate to the region for jobs & a more family-friendly place to live. This has meant that our community consists of Muslims from all the regions of the war-torn world, as well as economic immigrants & Muslim Americans, including converts. Being that we are in the region known as the "SIOUX EMPIRE", our community consists of various racial/ethnic groups including Native American Muslim converts of Sioux tribal origin. Our members bring diversity in language, life experiences, education as well as culture to our Islamic Center, al-humdulillah. Insha Allah, we recognize everyone has a gift from Allah, and we greatly appreciate what each is able to contribute (be it knowledge, skills or other things). Visit our Children's Corner on our webpage and download free Islamically oriented puzzles & Coloring pages for your children. We also recognize that many of our Muslim residents are being re-settled here by refugee services & have little in financial resources. Many have the right to request help from the larger Ummah under Islamic law. It is our prayer, insha Allah, that as we grow & raise funds we will be able to more effectively assist those in great need who have been displaced & are now resettling here as refugees. Our Muslim community consists not only people living down the street who attend the masjid regularly, but also Muslims who live miles away (sometimes over one hundred miles) who are only able to come to the masjid once in a while due to the great distance they must travel. Some of our community members live in towns where they are the only Muslims in their town (in some cases the only physician for that town). They serve as medical professionals where there has been a shortage of medical professionals in the rural towns of this state, may Allah reward them for the service they provide for so many. Some are teachers & professors helping the educational system in the state to educate its young people. Others still are opening up their own businesses, mashallah. Our city (Sioux Falls) has been recognized several years in a row, for being one of the top places to start a business, alhumdulillah. This has meant that business minded Muslim Brothers & Sisters have found that they can open up their own businesses & make a living in a halal format, with little of the red tape (restrictions or fees, etc) found in many other regions of the country. We encourage those Muslims seeking to move from the larger crime ridden cities to seriously consider the benefits of smaller cities in the midwest part of the United States. You may find that cities like ours are worthwhile places to raise your children, away from the drugs, gangs & violence. Housing is often not as difficult to obtain as it is in some cities, such as New York City. Diversity is also encouraged amongst our city's government & the state. You won't find public schools here with metal detectors or gangs either, which makes the public schools far more suitable environments for those wishing to keep their kids in public school. Those seeking to home school their children, will find that our state has one of the most easy application processes for home-schooling & will also provide textbooks & other assistance; while allowing you to choose your child's curriculum
Also employment opportunities abound throughout the region. So, if you seek to make hijrah away from the crime & violence of the larger cities in the US, and don't have the means to move overseas...consider the other option. Move to Sioux Falls & other cities like it where there are Masjids & Islamic Centers.
