My husband Z and I married after 6 weeks of meeting on a blind date. We have been married for 18 wonderful years. After 14 years as an Administrative Assistant in New York City, I decided to work from home on the internet. Working from home has allowed me to homeschool my children and live a life I never thought possible. I enjoy teaching young children and have tutored in my home for many years.

Our three children are now in their teens. When our youngest son was a toddler, he was diagnosed with Pervasive Developemental Disorder which is in the autism spectrum. He is an avid learner, loves school, and a busy bee at home.
People who have positive energy. Who can take negativity and fear and replace it with positive thoughts and positive energy.

Listening to old radio shows on Sunday evenings when AM reception is good, A Prairie Home Companion and Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me in the car when I shop on Saturdays. British Slang, Bonsai Trees and learning Feng Shui. Talking long walks on the beach and learning about other cultures and their languages.
I dislike negative, judgemental, racist people.
Right now my favorites are My Ummah and Al'Muallim by Sami Yusef, and Ahmed Bukhatir. My youngest son loves listening to the Sultan of Madinah by Aashiq-al-Rasul. Growing up in a musical household and at one time pursuing music and theatre as a career, I appreciate good music.
Martial Arts for the guys, Anime for my daughter, British mysteries, romance and sci-fi for me although I can watch the extended version of The Lord of The Rings trilogy anytime!
The Qur'an. British Historical Romance and Historical Mystery fiction. This summer, inshallah, I hope to read more non-fiction. The library is my friend.
My children are Maryam 15, Luqman 13, and Ibrahim 17. We have 1 pet which is a white long hair cat who loves listening to the Qur'an and will sometimes wake us up for Fajr.

Art  Enthusiasts are invited....to check out my sculptures at this coming art show!

Press Release: New York, July 8th 2008- "Open to Interpretation" explores the various directions that emerging artists have taken with the concept of Islamic Art. There will be two receptions, an opening on July 8th 6-9 and a gallery reception on July 10th 6-9.

The works are as traditional as calligraphy, as interpretive as a miniature on a story from the Torah, or as abstract as the concept of Nur (light). The artists in the exhibit include Mona Kamal, Marium Saifee, Shifaz Usman, Huma Gul, Eric Wenger, Fareen Butt, Asma Shikoh, Mumtaz Husein, Siona Benjamin, Mashkoor Raza, and Mo Shah.

The show encompasses three categories: calligraphy, figurative and abstract. The "calligraphists" include Sarwar, Huma Gul, Eric Wenger, and Mumtaz Husein. These artists have taken written verses from the Koran and created pieces representing interpreted emotion, connotation, and literal meaning. The mediums range from mosaic to steel sculpture and capture the verses in both essence and form. The figurative artists include Siona Benjamin, Asma Shikoh, and Mo Shah. Their works depict decision and anguish upon an individual's spiritual journey. Finally, the abstract artists include Fareen Butt and Mashkoor Raza, whose works have a more metaphysical leaning.

Works will be on view from July 8-14 at A.I.R Gallery, 511 W25th Street #303 in the Chelsea district of New York City. Gallery hours are 11am to 6pm.

Salaam alaikum,

Thanks for visiting my page & leaving such a nice message. I see you love Bonsai trees too! I have been working to make some as I love them & so does my husband. Nothing magnificant, but I obtained a seedling cedar that I'm training & also a boxwood (which truly teaches patience). There are a couple other Muslims on muslimspace who have children with AUTISM. Don't know if Muslimspace has a group yet for parents, but it would be a great thing if they did. Anyhow, just wanting to say Salaam. Hope to hear from you more as time unfolds. Insha Allah.

Assalaamu alaikum sister. I appreciate the supportive words. I was reading your profile, and I wanted to tell you that my niece who used to live with me and my mom was diagnosed with Aspergers. She is just turning 16 and is high funcioning and very intelligent, but there have been so many little everyday struggles. May Allah bless you and your family and make it easy for your youngest to deal with those extra challenges and to find lots of success.
